Stuff I use in MineCraft

Mods

Mods are primary reason I'm making this page. I have strong preferences when it comes to setting up an instance--and will often think I'm done adding mods, only to load in and remember I forgot something important. (usually Corpse mod)

Fixing The Game

Optimizations, security, crash and error handling, etc...

I notably will exclude things Specific to multiplayer as I don't really do multiplayer often unless I'm playing a modpack a friend has already made for me.

Wayland

In 1.20.1, and maybe earlier, there seems to be an issue with finding the window position. The following is needed to get it running.

  1. Install a patched version of libglfw, listed on the Nix repo as glfw3-minecraft.
  2. set the launcher to use it in Workarounds > Native Libraries > Use system installation of GLFW, find the libglfw.so in /nix/store/ and copy the path.
  3. Use neoforge or forge, it seems to work for both. (though the logs complain more with forge) I'll look into how to do this with fabric later. I don't think it's possible to do with vanilla though since wayfix needed.
  4. Install WayFix to make use of the patches.
  5. Turn earlyWindowControl to false in fml.toml as per instructions on this git issue for neoforge.

This means no rotating fox loading screen, sadly, but it does make 1.20.1 playable. I'll put them here for the time being:

Security

A totally normal thing for a singleplayer game to need modification for to play singleplayer

  • No Telemetry by kb1000
  • If exists, an equivelant to No Chat Reports that isn't No Chat Reports

I'll link to an explaination later, but the No Chat Reports mod's maintainers are chuds and thus a security risk, similar situation to the PolyMC launcher, but I don't think they've attempted malware payload like he did yet.. The lack of available options for this when I first found this out is part why I don't play multiplayer very much anymore unless a friend invites me. Which sucks because I used to enjoy hypixel because I have MMORPG brain from playing AdventureQuest as a kid. Not like it would help since I'm pretty sure hypixel uses chat reports, so if I every played again I'd lose my account to mass reporting for being trans, or opposing Israel's apartheid or whatever else, assuming such attacks aren't purely random, which I imagine they would be random anyway given MineCraft's griefing scene.

  • A skin loader / player model mod

I'd consider this a security measure because they make you less dependent on Mojang's skin CDN, which makes cracked launchers a more viable option. I haven't played cracked for a while because the cracked fork of prismlauncher i'd normally use is always a hassle to install on NixOS, and makes updating clunkier because it has to check for a github repo.

General Optimizations

I don't fully comprehend what these do but they're quite potent

Crash Handling and Logs

Hide The Unseen

Culling, despawning, leaking, etc...

  • Entity Culling, if available. Experiencing crashes on 1.20.1, will do further testing.
  • Dynamic FPS
  • More Culling, Brute Force Rendering Culling, or equivelant
  • Let Me Despawn or equivelant
  • Memory Leak Fix by FX - PR0CESS, or equivelant
  • MemorySweep by Tki_sor
  • Cull Less Leaves Reforged by CCr4ft3r, if available

Fixing The Broken

Fixes I'm astonished aren't implemented in the base game

  • Fast Items by Noryea

I could've sworn this used to be a setting. Mojang has a habit of removing stuff without fanfare, so I develop the "gnomes are stealing my socks" mentality about this sort of thing.

Specific Stuff

Particles

  • Cave Dust
  • Particular or similar

User Interface

  • AppleSkin
  • Better Advancements
  • BetterF3

Lets you hide coordinates without disabling them, allowing chunk borders, which I use a lot when building. Supplementaries provides globes that give you coordinates anyway

  • Camera Overhaul
  • Current Game Music Track
  • Jade
  • Smooth Camera Movement*

I could see myself liking this if I configure it right. It's very pretty but kinda makes me seasick, and the camera always flicks to the side awkwardly after exiting a UI.

  • Villager Names

Inventory

  • Mouse Tweaks
  • Legendary Tooltips
  • Enchantment Descriptions
  • Smooth Swapping
  • Tiny Item Animations

Audio

  • Sound Physics (Remastered)
  • Make Bubbles Pop
  • Drip Sounds
  • Sounds

Navigation

  • Distant Horisons

I prefer LODs over minimaps, more skeumorphic, and sortof acts as an optimization mod since I can more comfortably have lower than 8 render distance, usually 5 is all I need.

  • Boat Item View
  • Nothern Compass

Makes building with a Satisfactory-style world grid easier using the chunk borders without having to carry a cartography table everywhere to know where south west (the globe in the corner of the vanilla texture) is.

  • Lodestone Warps

Gives a bit more use to enderpearls. I like waystones aethetically, but without a way to make them cost enderpearls, they feel broken. This is a nice alternative, it's not broken since I don't like killing endermen since they're passive, aside from cave endermen from enderman overhaul.

  • Unseaworthy

Really pushing the section premise, but I like having to make bridges and diving gear instead of boating in one direction for thousands of blocks and zoning out. Swimming also does this, unless you enable sharking in squake so "surface tension" constantly pulls you down.

Backports and Re-additions

Mojang keeps insisting on adding features instead of just being an engine for modding, and has the audacity to make those features good and thus have the playerbase yearn for them to be alongside the current modding ecosystem that can't reasonably keep up.

That said, some of these just fix their mistakes, which due to the capitalism aspect always makes those initial mistakes suspicious.

Pre-1.22.x

Movement and Behavior Changes

  • Origins

Specifically with a datapack that gives the human origin weak arms, which I keep procrastinating to publish and have remade several times due to poor file management.

  • Theif
  • Corpse
  • Parcool
  • Squake
  • Better Combat
  • Peaceful Nights
  • Skeleton AI Fix

Content

Ingredience

  • Chalk
  • Twigs
  • Arborea
  • Hexerei
  • Fowl Play
  • Enchantery
  • Towns and Towers
  • Sparse structures
  • MC Dungeonss Armors
  • MC Dungeonss Weapons
  • Dungeons and Taverns

Create

  • Create
  • Create: Enchantment Industry
  • Scorched Guns 2

Is it's own mod really but it's well integrated with Create and needs brass past a point of progression

Farmer's Delight

  • Farmer's Delight
  • My Nether's Delight

Provides powder cannon, which can be chopped up into gunpowder. The rest of the mod is great but especially that. It's a bamboo variant with a sort of denim-like texture.

YungNickYoung's Mods

Really nice structures and quality of life mods

I usually everything except better dungeons (don't like the spider cave blobs on the surface) and cave biomes (I just don't get it, maybe it'll grow on me).

Joo5h's mods

Adds cute mobs

  • Creeper Overhaul
  • Enderman Overhaul
  • Ribbits
  • Critters and Companions
  • Ghost
  • Golem Overhaul

Starmute's mods

  • Storage Labels
  • A Good Place
  • Moyai

Mods where there's a lot of options or different options between versions

A big reason for this page's existence

Leaf Decay Accelerators

There's a lot of these and I haven't tested most of them.

More of a mechanical change, but letting leaves decay immediately means items won't be left on the ground as much.

There's an issue Leaves Be Gone with some worldgen and structure mods / datapacks due to it's by-default matching leaves to their logs--Notably terralith, causing entire biomes of leafless trees and items on the ground.

Equivelant to Sodium

There's a few, mainly due to mod loaders needing the same functionality implemented in accordance with the loader's tooling, some of it due to drama because Fabric had a nazi problem and some issue with the forge lead that led to the founding of neoforge. Neoforge pretty much solves these issues, so many things from fabric are moving to / also building for Neoforge, and fabric and forge will both likely be phased out over time.

  • Sodium
  • Embeddium
  • Rubidium

I guess I'll need to put version ranges, this might turn into a table then.

I'll be back later to fill out this section, but now I have an outline.

I'll go through and link everything after I get everything listed, as I foremost need the names to look them up in prismlauncher.
